Opinion polls currently show growing popularity of Trump and catastrophically falling support for Clinton. If a few months ago Clinton was ahead of Trump by at least 10 points, then now their positions are equal. Moreover, according to some polls, Trump is already ahead of Clinton in the nationwide ranking. Since his competitors quit the race, the multibillionaire has already secured the necessary number of delegates to become the official candidate of the Republicans. Hillary, on the other hand, is involved in a tense confrontation with Bernie Sanders.
Clinton’s criticisms of Sanders over the course of the election campaign have objectively played into the hands of Donald Trump. Clinton would now like to reduce the negative repercussions of this since Sanders success in the upcoming primaries, especially in California, the most populous US state, could significantly undermine Clinton’s position to be elected as the Democratic candidate. Clinton leads in first place with “super delegate” votes from Democratic Party functionaries, who are free to support a particular candidate regardless of the will of voters expressed in the primaries. If Clinton becomes the Democrats’ candidate on account of this, then the party would publicly demonstrate that it ignores the will of their constituents. Accordingly, this would affect its support in the presidential elections in November, 2016.
In an interview with CNN, Clinton said that she and Sanders have more in common in their political agenda than Sanders and Trump. This, however, is in fact a lie. Both Trump and Sanders are the foremost anti-system, protest candidates, while Clinton is the personification of the Washington establishment. In regards to foreign policy, Sanders as well as Trump oppose interventionist policies, while Clinton is an infamous hawk. In fact, Clinton is offering that Sanders accept the prospects of his defeat in the Democratic race without an concessions on her own part.
