Syria: No hope for peace

Intentional failure of the peace process

The talks in Geneva have shown that a compromise is not included in the plans for the pro-Western rebels. The opposition coalition formed in Riyadh refused to accept the opposition, which adheres to less radical views and are orientated to Russia, as members of the negotiation process. An agreement was not reached on the participation of Syrian Kurds because of the negative position of Ankara and Riyadh. As a result, the Gulf monarchies opposition controlled by the West left the negotiations. However, during the truce, rebels have consolidated their positions and have recuperated. That was the true purpose of their participation in the peace process.

War in full swing

Actually the fighting in Syria itself has unfolded with new vigour. The United States and its allies do not want to recognise Pro-Saudi terrorist groups who openly refused to comply with the truce, despite Russia's address to the UN Security Council. Heavy fighting still continues in the district of Aleppo.

The main disagreement

There remain serious disagreements between the powers involved in the conflict. The US and its Middle East allies insist on a change of power in Syria, which will mean the actual surrender of Russia. Russia, in turn, cannot refuse to support Assad, and tries to create controlled opposition structures in order to counter their pro-American counterparts.

Forecast

Do not expect a major breakthrough from the meeting in Vienna. It is most likely that the two sides once again will mark their position, but will not be able to reach a compromise. Technically, on paper, some of the agreements will be, but they will not be fully implemented.
