Shinzo Abe: Putin's visit contributes to new take-off of Russian-Japanese relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have held talks. There was a two-day summit to a long territorial dispute. The summit has been focused on two main themes such as the peace treaty on the issue of the South Kuril Islands and the bilateral economic cooperation.

As Putin said: “It would be naive to think we can solve this problem in an hour. There must be an end to this historic ping-pong. The fundamental interests of Russia and Japan require a long-term deal”.

Russia and Japan have signed more than 60 agreements in economic-related sectors.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe reported: “Our work together on the economic front will help us create a foundation to improve relations”.

Following the meeting, Putin and Abe reported that the important step towards the conclusion of the peace treaty became the agreement on the joint economic activity of Russia and Japan in the southern Kuril Islands.
