Despair: Neoliberals search for path of retreat for Ukrainian elite

28.11.2016

The meeting of the European Council on international events scheduled for November 28th will be held in Madrid.

Agenda: Panic

The main topic of the meeting will be Ukraine. The official title is "Reforming Ukraine during war and populism." In addition to board members, such persons as the ambassador of Latvia in Spain, a spokesman for the anti-corruption center of Ukraine, as well as political analysts are also invited for discussion. The debate’s character is obviously pro-Atlanticist. It is possible that the participants will discuss the option of maintaining the current regime in Kiev in the context of waning US support, which could happen early next year.

The essence of the organization

The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is an analytical center carrying out analysis on issues related to policy and security. The organization has set itself the task of strengthening Brussels' influence in these areas, masking it under such wording as "strengthening common and coherent European policy". The founders of the council in 2007 were fifty representatives of the political elites of European countries.

In addition to British and Germans, people from the Baltic countries and Poland are predominant on the board.
