Jakarta: Basuki Purnama named as blasphemy suspect

Wednesday, 16 November, 2016 - 15:30

Radical Sunnis groups have named the governor of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta as a blasphemy suspect, November 16 th.

In fact, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama is a representative of the ethnic and religious minorities in Indonesia, having Christian Chinese origin. Sunnis also appeal to one of the suras of the Koran, which forbids them to obey to a non-Muslim leader.

However, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama is a very popular politician in the Muslim-majority nation, who has chances to take the post of vice-president in elections of 2019. But it is not yet known, whether he participates in the future elections or not, because Basuki Purnama could be jailed for up to five years.

All in all, the Atlantists are clear to want weakening China's influence in the region, traditionally using the radical Sunni Islam to achieve their goals and, most likely, not without a help from the upper echelons of the judiciary.
