500 schools were taken over in Brazil

During the mass protests against education reforms (the Provisional Measure (MP 746), according to which the costs will be frozen for the next twenty years, the students took over more than 500 schools in different cities in Brazil.

According to the Brazilian Union of Secondary Students (UBES) across the country, 510 schools were occupied, most of them (461) in 63 cities in the state of Paraná. The teachers has also begun a response to the request by Governor Beto Richa of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), for the 2017 budget to be amended.

Moreover, occupations of schools have also been reported in Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Brasilia.
