State of emergency implemented in Turkey

In Turkey, a state of emergency has been implemented, with the law coming into effect today, running three months until October.

 

Necessary formality

The decision to adopt this measure was taken yesterday at a meeting of the Security Council of Turkey. A state of emergency has been introduced on the basis of Article 120 of the constitution as President Erdogan stated  "to most effectively and quickly take steps to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens."

 

Reasons for the move

On the night of July 16th, Turkey's rebel group associated with Fethullah Gülen and the CIA, made an attempt at a military coup. The main conflict was in Ankara and Istanbul. As a result, 232 people were killed , including 24 participants of the coup, about 1500 people were injured.

Moreover, Turkey has recently carried out a series of terrorist acts that killed soldiers, police and civilians. In organizing these attacks they have blamed Kurdish militants and representatives of ISIS.

 

Possible ways out of the crisis

It is obvious that the Turkish security apparatus can not cope with these challenges, and NATO can not help in this matter.

In this situation, the Turkish leadership should take a series of extraordinary measures. One of them could be a dramatic rapprochement with Russia, Syria and Iran, which are conducting an anti-terrorist campaign in Syria. Perhaps the experience and assistance of trainers from these countries can help Turkey as in the investigation of a plot against Erdogan, as well as to combat the current internal and external threats.

According to the latest news, information gathered by Russian military intelligence about the planning of the coup helped Erdogan pull off pre-emptive action against the conspirators.
