Sudan discusses the New Constitution
In Sudan the General Conference on the questions of National Dialogue has begun. The new Constitution, which will help restore peace in the country, is expected to be developed during this meeting.
The document, on the base of which the creating of the New Constitution is planned, was beforehand approved by both the Government and the armed groups involved in the conflict. It is supposed that during the conference the political parties including in the opposition will sign the agreement.
However, some parties, particularly collaborating with the United States, have already started to express criticism towards the preparative document. The Government of Sudan will not report its further steps in that case when the signing is blocked.
The US State Department has met the Sudan’s national conference with an anxious comment.
«We urge the Government of Sudan to consider the current National Dialogue a first phase, and to engage with the opposition for its participation in an inclusive dialogue process, as prescribed in the Roadmap agreement negotiated by the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) which the government and opposition have signed. Conclusively ending the dialogue at this stage could seriously impede negotiations of cessations of hostilities agreements with the armed opposition and could derail the completion of the AUHIP Roadmap»- were said in the statement of the US Department of State.
It needs to be mentioned that it is important for Washington to keep its troops in this African country, which has a sea border with Yemen. And this is possible, certainly, in the presence of a military conflict.
