Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took the oath of office and became president of Brazil for the third time. The ceremony took place in the country's congress.

On 30 October, Brazil held a second round of the presidential election, which Lula da Silva won by a narrow margin against incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.

Elected in the second round with 50.9% of the valid votes (60.3 million votes), He defeated Jair Bolsonaro, who got 49.1% of the vote (58.2 million votes). It was the smallest difference between 2 finalists in the last 9 presidential contests, since 1989.

In November, Brazil's highest electoral court rejected an application by Bolsonaro's supporters to annul part of the votes in the presidential election.

Chairman of the Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, who heads the Russian delegation, handed the Brazilian president-elect a message from Russian leader Vladimir Putin and confirmed that  Lula da Silva was expected to visit Moscow.

Lula Da Silva, in turn, reiterated during his meeting with Matviyenko his willingness to re-establish relations between Brazil and Moscow.
