EU postpones creation of its own army
The summit of heads of the defense departments and ministries of foreign affairs of the EU member countries was held in Brussels. During this conference the European military strategy was approved, not envisaging the creation of a military defense union.
Federica Mogherini, the current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said that the EU has refused the German proposal to create its own army, but there was reported about the intention to streamline and structure the existing tools.
The main focus of the new program was the protection of «particularly vulnerable» members of the EU (taking into consideration the Baltic states).
In addition, Mogherini highlighted the independence of the program from the United States.
