Congo: PM resigns

Congolese Prime Minister Augustin Matata Ponyo has announced his resignation in connection with the agreement (reached in October), which involving the extending the powers of the current President Joseph Kabila.

Augustin Matata Ponyo said: «I have offered my resignation as well as those of the members of my government… to respond to the spirit and the letter of the accord».

After numerous protests, Joseph Kabila would have to leave his post on December 19 th, but the ruling coalition and the opposition-minded organizations have agreed to postpone the election to April 2018 due to a lack of funding and some technical difficulties in carrying out early elections.

However, further protests and riots are not excluded.
