PM Khan’s UNGA Speech Questioned the Dubious Role of International Community

Taking the start from the global worry of climate change to the economic crisis owing to money laundering, and from the accelerating Islamophobia to the humanitarian concern of Kashmir, PM Khan has practically drew global community’s attention towards the issues targeting humans and humanity. In the 74th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), PM Khan presented some actual problems and highlighted their possible spillover effects on the entire world. At first, he talked about the concept of climate change and global warming. He showed his grave concern against the impact of climate change for the world in general and Pakistan in specific. He highlighted his team’s effort pertaining to the tree plantation campaign in the past and the one in the future. He, however, criticized the global bigwigs and stated, “I have seen a lot of leaders talk about this. But I don’t see world leaders really realizing the urgency of the situation. We have a lot of ideas; but as they say, ideas without funding are mere hallucination.” He further added that the core countries of the world contribute more to the phenomenon of global warming and must be held accountable for greenhouse gas emission.  The global leaders have just shown their verbal concern towards climate change but haven’t done anything in true letter and spirit.

 

 

After highlighting the problem of climate change, Khan spoke about money laundering and corruption, the factors posing economic threat to the developing countries. He also, unveiled the fact how money laundering leads towards the economic crisis and makes rich richer, while making poor poorer.He held the view, “Corruption is impoverishing the developing world. Difference b/w rich & poor countries are growing due to this. Money laundering is not treated the same as drug money or terror financing.” The outcomes of the vicious phenomenon of money laundering and the lack of efficient global policy against it, has been discussed by PM Khan. He urged for an anti-corruption and an anti-money laundering global drive by the global institutions.

 

The third part of PM Khan’s address to UNGA was comprised of the haunting and accelerating concept of Islamophobia. He advocated the entire Muslim world. From bringing blasphemy under the limelight to raising the problem of Islamophobia, Khan had presented the distress of 1.3 billion Muslims. He tried to show the world an actual essence of Islam. He annulled the term radical Islam and made it clear that there is no radical, extremist or liberal Islam but one Islam only. While, discussing the rising trend of Islamophobia and the slogans of radicalism, he mentioned the fact that Muslims face the effects of Islamophobia and have been subjected to maltreatment and marginalization that have created room for radicalization. Not only this, but he also questioned the world’s differential and prejudiced posture towards the 9/11 bombers and Tamil Tigers. He said, “The 9/11 bombers did suicide attacks, all sorts of theories came out like those about virgins in heaven. This bizarre thing happened where suicide attacks were equated with Islam.No one bothered researching the Tamil Tigers and the Japanese Kamikaze bombers. No one blamed religion when they carried out suicide attacks and rightly so because no religion teaches violence.”Why Islam has been associated with extremism? Extremism and terrorism has nothing to do with one’s religion. 

 

He also elaborated the pro-minority posture of Islam and stated, “In Islam, it was a sacred duty to protect places of worship of all religions. It was announced that all human beings were equal. The 4th caliph of Medina lost a court case against a Jewish citizen. No one was above the law. When a Muslim community is unjust to a Minority, it is going against the teachings of our religion.” While talking about woman rights in Islam he said, “I hear such strange things about Islam that it is against women and minorities. The state of Medina was the first that took responsibility of women; the widows, the poor.”

 

“Will the word community appease a market of 1.2bn or will it stand up for justice and humanity? If a conventional war starts between 2 countries, nuclear countries anything could happen. Supposing a country 7 times smaller than its neighbor; faced with a question. Either you surrender, or you fight till the end. I ask myself this question. And my belief is ‘La ilahaillAllah’, there is no God but one. We will FIGHT! I am not threatening here about a nuclear war; it is a worry. It is a test for the United Nations.” (PM Imran Ahmed Khan)

 

PM Khan presented the Muslim concern regarding blasphemy and said, “One of the reasons for Islamophobia; in 1989 this book was published maligning, ridiculing our Prophet (PBUH).The west could not understand what the problem was. They don’t look at religion the way that we do. And so; in their eyes Islam was an intolerant religion. And every 2-3 years someone would malign our Prophet (PBUH), Muslims would react, and the west would term them intolerant.Our Prophet (PBUH) lives in our heart, and when he is maligned, it hurts us.In western society; the holocaust is treated with sensitivity because it hurts the Jewish community. So that’s the same respect we ask for; do not hurt our sentiments by maligning our Holy Prophet (PBUH). That is all we ask.”

 

At last, PM Khan talked about the human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir with great passion and pain. He delivered a heartfelt speech and unveiled the evil face of RSS and Modi regime. He shed light on the gruesome history of RSS and Modi’s affiliation with it. He told the UNGA, how RSS was formed on the ideology of Hitler and Mussolini, how RSS pursues the anti-minority politics and how this party promotes the racial supremacy. PM Khan also showed the real face of Narendra Modi to the international community that how Modi was involved in the brutal murder of 2000 Muslim when he was the CM of Gujarat. Khan also quoted the fact that congress party gave a statement that terrorists have been trained in RSS camps. 

 

While highlighting the Indian brutalities and BJP imposed curfew in Kashmir, PM Khan questioned the United Nations and its role in solving a humanitarian crisis. He said, “I feel we are back in 1939; Munich. Czechoslovakia has been taken. Will the word community appease a market of 1.2bn or will it stand up for justice and humanity? If a conventional war starts between 2 countries, nuclear countries anything could happen.Supposing a country 7 times smaller than its neighbor; faced with a question. Either you surrender, or you fight till the end. I ask myself this question. And my belief is ‘La ilahaillAllah’, there is no God but one. We will FIGHT!I am not threatening here about a nuclear war; it is a worry. It is a test for the United Nations. You are the one who said Kashmir right to self-determination. This is not the time for appeasement like that in 1939 in Munich.This is the time when you, the United Nations, must urge India to lift the curfew; to free the 13,000 Kashmiris who have disappeared meanwhile and this is the time when the UN must insist on Kashmir’s right to self-determination!

 

Conclusively, PM Khan urged the UN and international community to stop feigning ignorance towards the plight of ill-fated Kashmiris and also warned the international world of the possible impact of Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir. He presented the case of Islam and Kashmir with great passion and determination. It’s time for the international powers to put an end to the discriminatory treatment towards Muslims and to listen to the concerns of Muslims suffering at the hands of Hindu extremists or else they mustn’t complain that they haven’t been warned.
