Donald Trump demonstrates his independence

03.08.2016

Donald Trump has refused to support the candidacy of the famous Republican Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, and the famous Russophobic hawk, Senator John McCain. Both are preparing to run for re-election to Congress in November this year. This step is evidence of Trump’s strained relations with the Republican establishment.

Conflict with the Republicans

During the Republican National Convention, Ryan and McCain were forced to support Trump as the candidate of the party, only to then repeatedly express their disagreement with him on a number of issues. They have especially sharply criticized Trump for his stated readiness for rapprochement with Moscow and recognizing the status of Russian Crimea. The Koch brothers, major Republican sponsors, have also refused to support Trump’s campaign.

In response, the billionaire has said he will not be a puppet of the establishment. In fact, the establishment’s inability to control Trump is the real cause for all of these contradictions

Obama calls for unity against Trump

US President Barack Obama recently called upon the Republican leadership to abandon support for Trump. The country's president openly calling for his political opponents to act together against a candidate supported by the majority of voters from his party is a unique case in US history. Thus, we can once again see the formation of a cross-party political alliance against Trump backed by the establishment responsible for usurping political power in the US.
