After the US imposed new sanctions on Turkey for carrying out a military operation in the Kurdish territories in Syria, the divergence of interests between Ankara and Washington reached a new level.
A Russian transport jet Friday , June 12 brought the first delivery of the $2.2 billion missile system to a Turkish military air base outside Ankara, causing concern from Brussels to Washington.
Hulusi Akar, Turkey’s Minister of Defence, didn’t specify the dates of delivery and settlement of Russian S-400, surface-to-air missile system, but the $2,5 billion deal is imminent.
Turkish-American relations have never been in such a crisis. The causes of this crisis are clear:
- US support for Kurdish separatists and its plan for a great Kurdistan.
Russo-Indian deal for sale of S-400 Triumf air defense systems was initially signed in an intergovernmental agreement reached during 17th Indo-Russian summit in October 2016.
Russia has begun deliveries of the S-400 ‘Triumf’ anti-air missile system to China in accordance with a contract from 2014. The news agency TASS, citing a source in the Russian military-technical cooperation system, reports that the first field system is already underway.
It is also known, that the deal includes a command station, radar station, energy and support equipment, as well as spare parts and instruments.
The S-400 "Triumph" air defense missile system was recived by the 4th Army, Air Force and air defense in Crimea.
Russia plans to deploy the advanced S-400 missile-defense system in the region of Crimea.
