Turkey voted for the transition to the presidential republic

In Turkey, the results of the referendum on changes to the constitution have been summed up. According to official data, on April 16, 2017, 51.41% of voters voted for the constitutional reform proposed by President Erdogan and the ruling Justice and Development Party. The support comes mainly from the interior of the country. 48.59% of voters voted against. The highest percentage of voted against is in the westernized cities of the Mediterranean coast and in the Kurdish areas of the country.
Erdogan's constitutional reform means in practice the transition from parliamentary to presidential form of government, the abolition of the post of prime minister and the empowerment of the president of the country with additional powers: the right to issue decrees having the status of law, the imposition of a state of emergency, the right to dissolve parliament, etc.
