Ghana: chaos during counting of votes

The presidential elections were held in Ghana yesterday. However, official results are not yet known, Nana Akufo-Addo representing the main opposition party - the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed about his victory. According to preliminary estimates of the opposition, their candidate has won 53.5% of votes, while the current president, member of the “National Democratic Congress” John Dramani Mahama has got 44%.

However, the election campaign reports several other numbers, which, however, make the situation even more unstable. Moreover, representative of the election Commission Eric Dzakpasu said about some violations during the voting. Thus, the number of ballot papers in some areas was higher than the number of registered voters.

The preliminary calculations prepared by the ruling party approves John Dramani Mahama;s victory, according also to Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, a senior representative of the “National Democratic Congress”, the president is seriously ahead of his rival. In addition, Ofosu-Ampofo called supporters to remain calm.

Moreover, Ghana has one of the most stable economies in Africa, where the last change of power was held in a constitutional way without strong shocks.
