Executioners and Victims: Ukrainian Nazis try to be friends with Israel

The anxious attitude of Petro Poroshenko, who has Jewish roots (real family name - Valtsman), to visit the state of Israel and its leaders does not match the official ideology of the current political elite of Kiev, which is based on the views of the extremist leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), Stepan Bandera.

The members of OUN never hid their own anti-Semitic beliefs. Many cases of the OUN's members’ involvement in racial cleansing and retaliatory operations on the territory of contemporary Ukraine during World War II were documented.

Israel and the United States’ position

No less strange in this case is Israel and the US’ position. By hosting Poroshenko, the Israeli authorities are nullifying the efforts of historians and public figures who worked on documenting Nazi crimes during World War II. In addition, the visit by the Jewish community of the US to Ukraine headed by Secretary of Trade Penny Pritzker looks strange as well. The delegation will take part in mourning events dedicated to the tragedy in Babi Yar where, 75 years ago, German Nazis, together with Ukrainian collaborators from OUN, executed hundreds of thousands of Jews near Kiev.
