Ayatollah Khamenei and the President of Ghana: U.S. cannot determine the fate of the people of Syria

The Americans and the Europeans cannot determine the fate of the people of Syria. It is the people of Syria who should make a decision about their future.
Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, met Sunday afternoon with John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana. Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, was also present at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, His Eminence referred to Iran’s positive and supportive outlook towards the issue of increasing cooperation with African countries since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, reiterating: “Imperialist powers are opposed to Iran’s warm relations with Africa. They are the main cause of wars and conflicts and they feed terrorist groups, but the cure for all these problems lies in that independent countries get close to and increase cooperation with one another.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution mentioned that the interests of arrogant powers lie in creating insecurity and waging different wars in all areas of the world. He added: “Terrorist groups in our region and in Africa have been trained by the intelligence services of America, England and the Zionist regime.”

Pointing to the statements of the President of Ghana about the sufferings of Syria at the hands of terrorism, Ayatollah Khamenei said: “The root of all problems is arrogant powers which are headed by America. And the Zionist regime is the embodiment of malevolence.”

His Eminence described the policy of the Islamic Republic on the issue of Syria as a policy of advocating peace, stating: “We have always tried to act in a way that this issue ends to the advantage of the people of Syria and we believe that no one outside a country can write a prescription for the people of that country.”

He stressed: “The Americans and the Europeans cannot determine the fate of the people of Syria. It is the people of Syria who should make a decision about their future.”

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the solution for the issue of Syria and for confronting problems such as terrorism and the pains of the people of Palestine depends on the cooperation and close relations of independent countries with one another. He added: “Iran and Ghana have many good capacities and we hope that this trip can lead to more cooperation between the two countries.”

Praising a number of African personalities for their independence-seeking campaigns against colonialists, Ayatollah Khamenei said: “These outstanding personalities have enhanced African identity in the world.”

Mahama also touched on Iran’s rich civilization and its leading role in scientific arenas and described the Leader’s statements as a good incentive to build a peaceful world.
