In it, Wolfowitz approves of a missile strike on Syria and calls it "a fantastic opportunity" (to be drawn into the war). Paul Wolfowitz also notes that he is on very good terms with Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Adviser Herbert McMaster. With both high-ranking officials of the Trump Neocon administration, he is not only well acquainted personally, they worked together earlier in the Pentagon.

Wolfowitz also said he continues to correspond intensively with Mattis and McMaster via email on issues of interest to them, although he claims that he has not met them personally for a long time. At the same time, Wolfowitz's influence on the decision-making on basic security issues increased after the White House granted considerable autonomy to the military department in making operational decisions.
