Violent protesters arrested in Venezuela

Venezuelan authorities arrested seven opposition protesters carrying 60 Molotov cocktails, Interior Minister Nestor Reverol revealed, in a clear effort to incite violence in the South American country.

The protesters were arrested in the upper-class districts of Chacao and Baruta in Caracas and in the nearby state of Miranda.

The governing Socialist Party asked authorities on the same day to open an investigation against the opposition mayor of El Hatillo, another rich district of Caracas, after he accused the government of using chemical weapons against protesters, in a bid to justify a U.S. military intervention.

President Nicolas Maduro responded to the right-wing violence by repeating the government's commitment to peace and dialogue on Instagram.
