The Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir has been executed after a court found him guilty of killing a friend, in a rare example of a ruling family member subjected to the death penalty. His execution was sanctioned by the Supreme and Appeal Courts in Saudi Arabia, the order was also signed by King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud.

However, such cases had happened before: King Faisal ibn Musaed Al Saud was executed for the murder of his nephew in 1975, Princess Mishaal bint Fahd al Saud accused of adultery in 1977.

Moreover, the executed Prince Turki bin Saud al Kebir did not belong to the higher authority. That’s why, this case should not be considered in isolation from in the internal battle for power between the two factions in the country, one of which is pro-American, the current Minister of Defense, Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The second is the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif Al Saud, who initiated the war in Yemen.
