The UK’s Labour and Scottish National parties called for an independent UN-led investigation into the allegations of war crimes in Yemen. They also demanded the suspension of arms sales to Saudi Arabia until the investigation has reached a conclusion.
However, the UK’s Foreign Secretary claim that other Western countries would "happily supply arms" to Saudi Arabia sounds more like a line from the Godfather film: If we don’t sell drugs, the Colombians will.
He also said that if the UK suspended arms sales, it will lose its diplomatic influence in the Yemen war.
However, if diplomatic influence was a valid argument then the UK should consider arming the Houthi alliance as well.
Earlier, Abdulmalik al-Houthi, leader of Ansarullah, stressed the importance of the formation of the government in support of the combat fronts and the Central Bank of Yemen.
He said: "Our path and our choice is that the steadfastness loyalty and trust to Allah who he is the one will grant us victory," and added: "The Saudi regime's aggression on Yemen is part of subversion movement under the umbrella of the United States, which serves Israel."
"There is no a sign indicating to the immediate end to the aggression, and everyone should take responsibility, and reinforce fronts with men. The aggression is targeting our country's economy which is continuously targeting the people in their livelihoods and preventing the arrival of salaries."
"Who is fighting the central bank?, O you American, Saudi and hypocrites…Yes you are fighting the central bank and seeking to starve thousands of families, and you who deliberately destroying the economic infrastructure and deliberately stealing and looting the resources."
He emphasized the Saudi threat, using their money to intervene in the affairs of other countries and then destroy their tranquility and stability. He stressed that Saudi aggression in Yemen has the full backing of the US in support of Israel.
He concluded: "We must rise as free men and bear the responsibility, not neutral between good and evil, between pride and humiliation, and between truth and falsehood."
Meanwhile, the Houthi alliance, consisting of the rump Yemeni army and allied fighters from Popular Committees launched a locally designed and manufactured ballistic missile towards King Abdulaziz International Airport causing massive destruction at the airport.
However, Saudi media outlets reported that the missile was intercepted and destroyed before it could cause any damage. They also claimed that the Yemeni missile was fired toward the holy city of Mecca, but this claim was rejected by the Houthi alliance.
An Ansarullah spokesman said: “Saudi officials are looking for sympathy in the name of guardianship of the Masjid al-Haram in the holy city of Mecca, and availing themselves of media frenzy – something which nobody actually believes in.”
He emphasized: “Saudi Arabia wants to provoke Muslims through fabricated propaganda that we targeted the Kaaba. The Yemeni nation needs no proof to show its Arab and Muslim identity. It has never targeted religious sites, and definitely treats religious rites with much greater respect compared to US mercenaries. Aggressors must end their attacks and siege against Yemen, embrace peace and observe the principle of good neighborliness.”
Later, the Houthi alliance targeted an assembly of mercenaries in the Aqaba district of the northern province of Jawf, leaving scores dead. An armored vehicle and battle tank were also destroyed in the attack.
Separately, al-Kars base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern border region of Jizan was also targeted a number of Saudi coalition fighters were killed and injured.
The US-led Saudi coalition army chiefs with their Algerian counterpart and requested re-enforcements for their war in Yemen. A year ago, Algiers turned down a similar request but offered some logistics support.
Interestingly, it seems that the request is for the establishment of a “peacekeeping force” after the war ends.
The illegal invasion and occupation of parts of Yemen have killed more than 10,000 Yemenis, the majority of them civilians, in indiscriminate targeting that also destroyed most of Yemen’s infrastructure and even agriculture.
Astonishingly, the Saudi coalition is now looking for peace and peace keeping?
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that the number of suspected cholera cases in ten provinces of Yemen, concentrated in Ta’izz, Aden, Lahij, Hudaydah and Sana’a, has soared to 1,410 ever since its outbreak three weeks ago.
Cholera is an acute intestinal infection caused by contaminated water. It causes severe diarrhea and dehydration, followed by death without prompt treatment.
This points to another war crime as the Saudi coalition has deliberately targeted Yemen's water and sewerage systems as well as most of its health infrastructure in its 18-month-long aerial bombardment in Yemen.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says 7.4 million Yemen children are in dire need of medical help, and 370,000 run the risk of severe acute malnutrition.
“We appeal to the world to help us do our job on the ground; we appeal to the fighting sides that humanitarians can get access to more areas. You know that the situation is complicated also, infrastructure has been damaged, ports have been damaged, it is difficult to get aid in, so any help we can get is highly appreciated.”
Elsewhere, three civilians were killed when Saudi coalition fighter jets targeted a residential neighborhood in the Baqim district of the mountainous northwestern province of Sa’ada.
An unspecified number of people were also killed in two areas in the Nihm district of Sana’a Province.
Additionally, a Saudi airstrike against a family home in At Tuhayat district of Hudaydah left one person dead and eight others injured. There were six children among those injured in the assault.
