Pakistan-India Crisis: Pakistan handled maturely and wisely

Pakistan is a “Peace-Loving” nation and wanted to promote ‘Peace” globally. In fact, Pakistan suffered a lot during the last four decades due to war-like situation in Afghanistan. Pakistan suffered 80,000 lives and suffered economic loss estimated around US Dollars 250 billion, in addition to irrecoverable intangible loss. Pakistan knows the consequences of war and especially, where Pakistan and India both are nuclear states. It can cost heavy loss to humanity, as once there is escalation, it might engulf the whole region.

 

But Pakistan, being a mature state, and Prime Minister Imran Khan a visionary leader, observed patience and averted the big disaster.

Joint session of Parliament was held on 28 February 2019 (Thursday) to discuss rising tension with India in the wake of the Pulwama attack and subsequent airstrikes by both countries.

 

Talking about the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India, the prime minister said that despite his government's multiple overtures of peace, the response from New Delhi had not been encouraging. "We realized that it was because of upcoming elections in India," he said and added that the government decided to wait until the polls in India were over before making another offer for talks. However, he disclosed, he had "feared they (India) would do something".

 

He told the Parliament that after an Indian aircraft violated Pakistan's airspace in the wee hours of 26 February 2019 (Tuesday), he had a meeting with Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa where it was decided that Pakistan will not respond straightaway, to avoid any escalation beyond control. It was a very wise decision and in the interest of whole region. World has appreciated!

 

"We realized that Pakistani people might get upset that we did not respond, but we (army chief and premier) decided that since we did not know if there were any casualties, in case of an immediate response there will be escalation." "The only purpose of our strike was to demonstrate our capability and will," said PM Khan while addressing the House. "We did not want to inflict any casualty on India as we wanted to act in a responsible manner." Pakistan has obligation and capacity to defend our country, but we are much more civilized and only conveyed a message to India that do not test limits of our patience. 

 

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on 27 February 2019 (Wednesday) — a day after India violated the Line of Control (LoC) — undertook strikes across the LoC from Pakistani airspace. PAF shot down two Indian aircraft inside Pakistani airspace, with one aircraft falling inside Azad Jammu and Kashmir. One Indian pilot was arrested by troops on ground, the Army's media wing had said. Although Pakistan has capability to do much more, but refrained from a full-scale war.

 

 

"Do not take this confrontation further," the premier said, addressing the Indian leadership. He warned that whatever action New Delhi decides to take in the future, Pakistan will be "forced to retaliate" to it. As an obligation and duty to defend our country from any aggression.

He lauded the Pakistani media's coverage of events over the past three days, saying that the reporting was "responsible" and "mature". While, Indian media created a war-hype and mis-quoted the facts. "But it was upsetting to see the warmongering done by the Indian media," the premier said. "It's because our media has seen the dead bodies and bloodshed that results from terrorism. If the Indian media had seen what our journalists have witnessed over the past 17 years, they would not have created this war hysteria."

 

 

"In our desire for peace, I announce that tomorrow, and as a first step to open negotiations, Pakistan will be releasing the Indian Air Force officer in our custody," PM Khan said, adding that Pakistan's efforts for de-escalation should not be construed as a "weakness". International community has appreciated it very well. The gesture was greeted with near unanimous support in the parliament. 

 

Pakistan has played its part of good will gesture and expects a similar reaction from India, but unfortunately, India send us a dead body of an innocent Pakistani civilian, who entered Indian territory by mistake and was killed with stones and torture in Indian jails. 

 

Although, Pakistan has the capability to respond in much bigger surprising manner, but, restrained from converting the escalation to full-scale war. The message was conveyed to India that although Pakistan loves peace and wanted to promote peace, instead of war, but have supremacy over India and can defend its country. It is expected that, India have conceived the message well and will not dare to coerce Pakistan again in future. But will cooperate with Pakistan in maintaining “Peace and Stability” of the whole region.
