The situation in Yerevan worsens

27.07.2016

An attempted coup in Armenia is underway. Last night, the situation surrounding the police unit captured by the armed group "Daredevils of Sasun" (supporters of Jirayr Sefilian’s “Constituent Parliament" organization) has deteriorated sharply. Pro-US terrorists took medics as hostages.

Firefights

Police have reported that the militants began indiscriminately shooting last night after which a firefight erupted with reinforced police forces. In the shootout with police, a police officer was wounded along with the armed group’s leader, Pavlik Manukyan, and his son Aram. Their condition is estimated as critical and are now secure in the Erebuni medical center. Two more wounded bandits are trapped in the police unit building. Two militants, Gagik Yeghiazaryan and Aram Hakobyan, have surrendered. Earlier in the night of July 26th, the shootout injured two more extremists: Ashot Petrosyan and Hovhannes Harutyunyan. About 20 militants remain in the building. дфеулн

Actions of support

Supporters of the pro-American opposition are making every effort to let the extremists be released. The propaganda of the opposition and media manipulation technology used on social networks have played an important role as the number of protesters in support of the terrorists is growing. If in the first days after the hostage-taking there were hundreds of such people, now they are in the score of thousands. The radicals themselves are talking about tens of thousands of participants in rallies. The largest action was held yesterday evening on Khorenatsi street. 30 protesters were arrested during clashes with police.

Representatives of the pro-American opposition are using openly anti-Russian slogans. The singer Ruben Hakhverdyan who joined the demonstrators said: "I know one thing: Serjik Sargsyan was brought to power by the Russian special services and they are doing everything to keep him in power. And in response, he is destroying our people to turn Armenia into a testing ground for Russia.”

On the road to disaster

The aim of these actions is regime change in Armenia and the rejection of the country’s Eurasian, pro-Russian course. The consequences of an Armenian “Maidan” could be no less bloody than the Ukrainian case. The opposition has called for rejecting Moscow’s peace plan concerning Nagorno-Karabakh. Using revanchist slogans, they are ready to launch a war in Karabakh. Russia's refusal to be drawn into the conflict on Armenia’s side will be used to drag the country out of Russia's influence.
