In 2022, the West tried to put pressure on Russia to break the Russian economy, collapse the national currency and provoke inflation, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said during a speech at the Russia-China forum in Shanghai. However, as the head of the government stressed, all this remained a pipe dream for detractors.

Last year, Russia was subjected to sanctions pressure on an unprecedented scale. The aim was to break our economy, to collapse the national currency, to provoke devastating inflation. To hit the standard of living of ordinary citizens. None of the things our detractors dreamed of happened," Mishustin said.

He stressed that Russia has not only survived but continues its progressive development. Mishustin noted that Moscow is targeting fast-growing markets and is expanding trade contacts with states with fast-growing economies. The prime minister said that increasing ties with friendly states is one of the six key objectives set by President Vladimir Putin for the current year.

On 22 May, Mishustin arrived in Shanghai at the invitation of President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. He is scheduled to have talks with the Chinese leader and Premier of the State Council Li Qiang. Bilateral agreements are expected to be signed as a result of these meetings.
