Interpol: new Chinese President and Russian Vice President

Global police cooperation agency Interpol elected a senior Chinese public security official Meng Hongwei as president and the head of the Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Moscow, Alexander Prokopchuk as Interpol Vice President.

At the same time they are elected by the overwhelming majority: Alexander Prokopchuk has got 127 votes, with 8 abstentions and 10 opponents. Moreover, for the first time in history a Russian citizen was elected to the high post and, especially, in tandem with a Chinese citizen, being a longtime partner of Moscow.

Many experts think that this event will facilitate the returning 100 most-wanted corruption suspects to China. President Xi Jinping pays great attention to this question and strengthens the struggle with corruption in general. All these actions will greatly improve Beijing's image in the world. In turn, Russia can also increase their influence, especially on the Asia-Pacific region.

This decision was announced during at the agency's 85th members' meeting in Indonesia.
