Star Wars: an aggressive Republic and Jedi-terrorists

It's not a secret that Hollywood and the whole modern mass culture is not only a beneficial business, but also a powerful weapon of propaganda. People all over the world consume much of this “cultural surrogate” which is effortlessly digested even by the most undeveloped human consciousness, which is then formed by it.

A great number of publications in the international media (and even some major American publications) prove that the CIA, the Pentagon, and the other agencies, are directly involved in creating the agenda for DreamWorks SKG. They do it at different levels. It happens that one or another film, after reviewing and editing the script, receives additional funding or is fully sponsored by the security forces. Most experts are involved in the elaboration of various images in accordance with the interests of their structures. The film with the “wrong” scenario simply is not allowed or its budget is cut back so that the production will become simply meaningless.

Of course, the very structure of Western society and its information field helps to “correct” products entering the main informational flow easier than others. A good example in this case, which is globally famous George Lucas saga, Star Wars. 

The creator of the legendary series himself admitted that he did not expect such a huge success. The first film about these events that take place in a galaxy far, far away, was released in 1977. And if you remember what the state of the world and American society was at this time in particular, its popularity would be understandable.

The whole saga is literally full of analogies with the bipolar world and the Cold War events. The free and democratic Republic (as well as the rebels) is opposed to the inhumane and authoritarian Empire, fair and noble Jedis against bloodthirsty and cruel dark Siths. In the galaxy there are lots of conflicts on various planets with different developmental levels (similar to the conflicts in Africa and South-East Asia). The Empire always suppresses these. The Jedi and the rebels are noble fighters for freedom and prosperity. Sometimes it is too ridiculous: the villainous Siths’ lightsabers are red and even the most undeveloped human consciousness could learn exactly who is “bad” and who is “good”.

The Empire's organization and aesthetics is a kind of synthesis between the Third Reich and the Soviet Union: parades, marches, uniforms, even the helmet shape of one of the main villains is grotesquely exaggerated and obviously emphasizes once again that there is nothing positive in it. The only way to deal with it is to destroy it. 

In the people’s minds, from film to film, the following associations were imposed: the Republic is a free economy and culture, diversity, development and technological progress; the Empire is state control over the economy, censorship, stagnation, repression. Even with some deliberate oversimplification, these are the same arguments that were used in US media propaganda against the Soviet Union.

Moreover, the dichotomy of the Republic against the Empire has even deeper layers. The rebels and the Republic associated with chaos, they are disparate groups of beings from different planets with no clearly defined command center, which are then consolidated in their efforts to strike at the enemy. The Empire is a centralized state, a monarchy, which represents stability and order. There is clearly an analogy with the geopolitical collision of the Land and the Sea; the Sea is chaos and liberalism, and the Land is order and authoritarianism. In other words, true “freedom”, according to the creators and their curators, can only appear where there is no order.

Moreover the media campaign launched to support the Star Wars seventh episode makes the media reveal another relevant fact. Some psychologists have noticed in recruitment methods widely used by the ISIS (DAESH) is the “light and good” approach of the Jedi .

One of the sagas main characters, Luke Skywalker, is represented to the audience as an orphan living on his uncle's farm. The young man has no friends; all he wants is an adventure outside the world in which he grew up.

The Journal of Homeland Security said that most of the ISIS extremists have also single-parent families (grow up without a father), difficulty in communicating with peers, and try to join the group in order to gain a sense of support and importance. Thus, Luke is that person who was sought by Obi-Wan Kenobi, a "religious fanatic who's goal was to educate and to give an extremist interpretation of the force concept to young people".

The same thing happened with his Luke’s father Anakin Skywalker. He also grew up on a distant planet without a father, had no friends, until one day when the Jedi recruiter appeared in his life, he was well known to us - Obi-Wan Kenobi. The same storyline is completely repeated in a recent sequel, but this time a young girl grew up on deserted planet and at the end of the film would meet with Luke.

The Star Wars brand is one of the most recognizable in the world. For over 38 years, many, mostly western, countries, a huge fan community has formed, and for 38 years their number increased to dozens of millions. In other words, what was conceived as another science fiction film, eventually became a powerful lever in the programming of so many people’s consciousness.
