The US is in a hurry to deploy a missile defense system in South Korea

The US began to deploy the THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea. In the morning, new elements of the missile defense system arrived in Sondju in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do. The arrival of military equipment did not go unnoticed for the local residents, who went to protest. Protesters believe that the installation of American anti-missiles only adds fuel to the confrontation fire between Seoul and Pyongyang, especially against the backdrop of a threat of war between the US and the DPRK.

The US, in turn, is in a hurry to install elements of missile defense before the end of May, following an agreement with the previous leadership of the country. On May 9, presidential elections will be held in South Korea. In opinion polls, the candidate from the moderate-left Democratic Party, Tobur Mun Jain, who previously promised to hold consultations with China on the deployment of US missiles and possibly abandon the American missile defense system, is in the lead. However, the aggravation of relations between the United States and the DPRK, US pressure and intimidation of the population by the South Korean threat can force him to change positions or add votes to more pro-American candidate  Ahn Cheol-Soo.
