The British International Centre of studying radicalization and political violence has presented the report « Criminal Pasts, Terrorist Futures: European Militants and the New Crime-Terror Nexus», in which it states, that European prisons are a place of recruiting future terrorists.

This work confirms that the effect of a prohibited organization «Islamic state» has been achieved largely due to the connection between criminal elements and radical religious Islamists.
In fact, precisely in prisons the embittered youth in many countries take the path of the organized terrorism. After their jail time and their release, with the help of the necessary links established in prisons, the converts were sent to fight in the Middle East.

79 profiles of terrorists from Belgium, the UK, Denmark, France, Germany and the Netherlands were studied for this research.

According to the statistics for the last five years, 5,000 citizens of Western European countries have left to the Middle East to join the terrorist activities of ISIS.
