Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said, that during the EU summit Italy blocked any decisions to extend sanctions on Russia, and the country didn’t support the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions connected with the situation in Syria.

Paolo Gentiloni also added: “We had a discussion that luckily ended without considering the option - which would have been wrong, I think - to react to the situation in Syria and Aleppo with EU sanctions against Russia”.
