Argentina demands to cancel war games in the Malvinas Islands

The deputy foreign minister Carlos Foradori presented the protest note signed by Susana Malcorra the current foreign minister of Argentina to the UK Ambassador in Buenos Aires Mark Kent.

Argentina’s government said that it was informed by Britain that the exercises would be held between 19 and 28 October in the Malvinas Islands and would include the launching of Rapier missiles.

In the note presented by the deputy foreign minister, Carlos Foradori, to Ambassador Mark Kent on Friday, Argentina asked Britain to call off the «illegitimate» exercises.

In this protest note it was said: «The behaviour of the United Kingdom contradicts the principle of the peaceful settlement of controversies supported unanimously by countries in the region»

The Macri’s government, in contrast to the government of Cristina Kirchner, has a weaker position on the disputed territories. The protest note has probably more populist character, because other actions of Argentina indicate the formal recognition of the English Crown’s claims.
