The retreating “Old World”
Syria has become the center of attention because all the contradictions of the modern world are concentrated in the country. It is necessary to realize one truth in order to understand what is happening in the region: Syria is the key to the Middle East. As a result, it is a huge geopolitical unit that can affect the balance of power in the world. Therefore, when Syria faces such a strong confrontation, it also reflects the contradictions that exist in the world.
In fact, the “old world” is retreating. The world that has existed for the last 200-300 years, in which the West was the dominant force, is being set aside, and a new world is being formed. The Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci said that it is in these moments when the “demons” appear, like the twilight before dawn. Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra are the demons that briefly fill the space between the old and new world. We need to promote the birth of the new world, as it is the only way we can get rid of those awful “demons” that have caused so much misfortune.
Russia's activity in Syria changed the balance between the forces. At that time, when the state was close to collapse, Russian weapons appeared in Syria; it didn’t defend the regime, as some believe. It defended the Syrian state, the Middle East and, perhaps, the entire world. Russia’s military operation has a very important sense, as it will have a significant impact on the further developments in the region.
It is important to understand that modern Syrian society is inconstant, and that the opposition in Syria consists not only of those who cut off heads. The political opposition was initially against the militarization of the dispute, but the Gulf monarchies, the West, and the other regional powers initiated a full-scale armed conflict in Syria.
As for those who cut off heads, they are not the opposition, if anything, they are fascists. And if we analyze the current situation, it is largely a repeat of the events in Europe during the 1930’s -1940’s, when the USSR and the US united against fascism. The current events are pushing us in that direction once again. When Washington realized that it was losing control over the situation, it hastily opened the so-called “second front” in the same way that it did at the end of the Second World War.
I have being studying this issue, and there are four stages in the relationship between fascism and the West. The first stage, “secret financing”, was from 1929 to 1932. The second stage, the “strange silence” against the spread of fascism, was from 1932 to 1939. The third stage, the “imitation of war” against fascism, was from 1939 to 1944, until the Normandy landings. Finally, when the results of the war were already evident, they started full-scale hostilities - the fourth stage. This was done to ensure that all the laurels were not won by the Soviet Union. Today, when Russia and allies are winning in Syria, the US is forced to join the fight.
The space between the Caspian and Mediterranean Seas is a “body” that has existed for thousands of years. The people that live there are united not only by the economic space, but also by psychology. The Kurds, Arabs, and Persians are fraternal people. While the West is falling, we should look for ways to unite the people, but for this to happen, it is necessary that they all receive their legal rights. It is impossible to solve the Syrian problem without Turkey, Iran, and Iraq; no one knows how to do it. But I think that life itself will force us to find ways to build this new space.
