EU preparing to impose new sanctions against Russia

13.10.2016

Washington's satellites in Europe are threatening new restrictive measures.

Headed by Germany

As became known earlier, this initiative was proposed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Merkel is the main executor of Washington’s orders in Europe. The head of the German Bundestag Committee on Foreign Affairs, Norbert Röttgen, has also confirmed that the possibility of new sanctions is being discussed within the German establishment.

But the final decision has not yet been made due to strong resistance to new sanctions in the EU on the part of business circles.

Syrian cornerstone

The first to start talking about new sanctions was the United States, for whom the sanctions are linked to the Syrian conflict. Washington is beginning to nearly openly defend the terrorist groups in Syria controlled by it and is trying to prevent their elimination by government troops and Russian air forces. The White House is also scared that Russia and Syria’s successes could reveal new information on the relationship between terrorists and US intelligence.

What to expect

It is assumed that Russian officials and some companies directly tied to Russia’s military-industrial complex will be first on the sanctions list.

Moscow's reaction will be immediate, and new counter-sanctions against the EU will be introduced as a response.
