Russia is relying on the negotiation process, which is taking place under the auspices of the UN. After performing combat tasks that greatly undermined the possibilities of terrorism, talks with various opposition and armed groups in Syria will be intensified.
Also, a formal withdrawal gives Russia the opportunity to accuse the West should they attempt to transfer weapons to militants or instigate any provocation.
Firstly, the terrorist group ISIS and other illegal groups were significantly weakened, resulting in strategic territory being placed back under the control of the Government of Syria. Secondly, the smuggling of oil to Turkey was foiled, as well as the delivery of arms and ammunition from Turkey to Syria. Thirdly, the new Russian military capabilities were tested and demonstrated. Fourthly, the intervention in the Syrian conflict has enabled Moscow to hold the desired position on other issues - Syria has become an additional trump card in negotiations with the West in various areas, including Ukraine. Fifthly, Russia has strengthened its influence in Syria, and the region in general. Finally, the operation had a positive impact on the improvement of relations with Iran, the Lebanese Hezbollah, and other actors who oppose US hegemony.
