Patriarch Kirill met the Queen of the United Kingdom

The meeting was held behind closed doors.

However, that Syria and the situation of Christians in the Middle East is reported to have been discussed among other themes. Moreover, His Holiness Patriarch explained the role of the Church in Russia to the Queen Elizabeth II and spoke about the spiritual world of the Russian people.

The patriarchate stressed that Patriarch was very pleased with the meeting and he said it was successful.

Of course, the Patriarch's visit, the first ever, should improve the complex relations between Russia and Britain. Also, it should be remembered that the visit is taking place against the background of numerous conferences on Syria, taking place in the continental Europe as well as in London.
