Argentina restores military relations with U.S.
Argentine President Mauricio Macri continues plans to reestablish bilateral defense relations with United States after a freeze in military ties in recent years, the Argentine daily La Nacion reported Sunday.
Defense Vice Minister Angel Tello told the newspaper that reestablishing military ties is part of an attempt to recreate common political ground in the area of defense as part of “the goal of returning to the world” as set forward by the president.
Tello has headed to Washington for a five-day visit to foster relations with U.S. Department of Defense and meet with Washington's deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Rebecca Chavez, among other officials.
Officials plan for such meetings to become routine as the two countries rebuild military relations.
