11 May 330, was official ceremony of consecration conducted by Christian bishops of the Constantinople, new capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Consecrated the city under the name of Constantinople, the emperor thus contrasted the new capital with pagan Rome. In Byzantium, this date is celebrated as a public and religious holiday.
