Jose Angel Flores, one of the leaders of the Unified Campesino Movement of Aguán (MUCA) was killed in the northern Honduran department of Colon. The members of this movement continue to uphold the right of their land from the multinationals.

Two other leaders of the environmental movement, which were supporting farmers and indigenous peoples in their struggle, have recently been killed. The requirements of investigating the murder of these activists and stopping their persecution continue in Honduras during few weeks.

Honduras is an important partner for Washington, because the weak government comes to any US concessions for economic benefits. In particular, the forests are cut down, where some indigenous peoples live, and the land is taken away from farmers. It causes serious protests from environmental and social organizations, which lead to massive clashes.

Killing leaders of resistance movements is also not rare. Moreover, Honduras is recognized as the most dangerous place for environmentalists. Despite the fact that most murders happen in Brazil, Honduras takes the first place in the number of killed ecologists per capita.
