Foreign Ministers of Russia and Turkey to meet in Sochi

A meeting between the foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey is scheduled for July 1st. This will be the first such event since the incident with the downed Su-24 in the skies over Syria.

Turkey apologizes

This meeting, as well as the recent telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was made possible after a formal apology and statements by the Turkish side about their readiness to pay damages. In addition to investigating this incident, such were Moscow's conditions for resuming relations.

Black Sea factor

The foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey will meet in Sochi at a meeting of the Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation. Sergei Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu are set to discuss the situation in the region, settling the Syrian conflict, as well as other topical issues of Russian-Turkish relations.

The duality of the Turkish elites

Some experts suggest that the destruction of the Russian Su-24 was part of a conspiracy by pro-American Turkish elites against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to some reports, this was done without his knowledge and with the aim of destabilizing Russian-Turkish relations and provoking another conflict in the region.
