Conservative and sovereigntist European movements have criticized the document for its indulgence of replacing the indigenous population of the continent with peoples originating from the Middle East. In this view, the real significance of the document lies in its organization of previously irregular migration and population replacement. The liberal leadership of the EU does not even conceptualize this problem, as it believes that these Muslim migrants will become respectable European citizens. But this is just not happening. The arrival of migrants with non-European and non-liberal identities and value-systems leads to an increase in crime and provokes clashes on ethnic and religious grounds, including between migrants themselves.
The Left and the extreme liberals also oppose the EU plan as they consider it to be inhumane. They stress that Europe should accommodate all refugees and migrants and that none should have to be deported back to Turkey. Since left-liberals, in contrast to the right and nationalists, represent an impressive part of the political and media establishment in Europe, any revision of EU migration policy is likely to happen only in this vein, which would further deepen the crisis. The migrant riots on Greek islands, for example, have only reinforced the left-liberals’ positions.
The European Parliament is not empowered to take any key decisions, and exists rather as a decorative body. However, the debate in the European Parliament will show the positions of Europe's major political forces on this matter.
