Primaries in New Hampshire: Establishment’s Defeat

Victory of the Alternative

Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are not members of parties that are nominated. Their victory and good position in the electoral race demonstrates in general the Americans’ frustration with the existing political system and the domestic and foreign policy that exists among mainstream Democrats and Republicans.

Independent Candidates

Both candidates put forward populist slogans that oppose the American political establishment, and accuse the other candidates of lobbying the interests of large corporations and various interest groups. Donald Trump is a billionaire, unlike other Republican candidates, he is financially independent from the traditional sponsors of the Republican Party and the most influential Israeli lobby.

Bernie Sanders is a Jew and a socialist, the complete opposite to Trump, but he bases his campaign on similar slogans: independence from and opposition to large corporations, transforming the US state system into a mechanism of the realization of their interests. Officially, his company is funded by donations from individuals and trade unions.

Against Interventionism

Both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders oppose the aggressive US foreign policy. The other candidates, both Democrats and Republicans, on the other hand, are ready to continue the policy of unleashing conflicts around the world and the export of chaos. From the point of view of Trump and Sanders, it is not in US’ interests as a national state. Instead of interventionism, Trump and Saunders offer as a priority facing the internal problems. At the same time, as opposed to globalist outlook of the current American elite, Trump offers a realist worldview, where national interests and the balance of power of other great powers play the main role.

“Silent Majority” Votes

According to CNN, Sanders’ victory was courtesy of votes that were not from members of the Democratic Party. The same thing is true for Trump; the majority of people who voted for him are people who previously did not participate actively in politics. The victories of Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz in Iowa are explained by the fact that only registered activists of the two parties were involved in the caucuses.

Importance of New Hampshire Primaries

The New Hampshire primaries are the first fully-fledged primaries in the United States. Those who demonstrate good results usually come out as the leaders of the wider race.
