The political survivor

Daniel Ortega is assuming presidency for the third time in a row, which speaks to the confidence of his voters. In the last election in December 2016, he received 72% of votes. He first became president in 1985, before which he led the armed struggle against the pro-American dictatorship.

Left course

Ortega managed to fulfill his campaign promises to overcome the negative effects of the economic crisis and reduce poverty in the country by nearly twofold. This precedent shows that with proper governance and socially-oriented policy, it is possible to solve many problems.

Nicaragua is a member of the ALBA bloc which also includes Cuba and Venezuela.
