Kyrgyzstan: The CSTO to discuss joint defense

On October 6, Kyrgyzstan launched a joint field meeting of the Coordination meeting of chairpersons of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament states - members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on defense and security issues.

The core of Eurasia

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a regional organization, it can be classified as a military-political bloc. The objectives of the CSTO activities are "strengthening of peace and international and regional security and stability, the protection of the independence and sovereignty of Member States." The CSTO is the main structure to ensure peace and security in the post-Soviet space.

The military component

The core of the CSTO forces are the Russian part, but a significant role is also played by the armed forces of other member countries. In different parts of the region, military exercises are held regularly. Thus, on October 3rd on the "Edelweiss" mountain range n Kyrgyzstan,  exercises of Collective Rapid Deployment Forces "Frontier-2016" commenced.The military conducts counter-terrorism exercises to detect, block and destroy conventional enemy battle groups.

An important region

In terms of geopolitics, Kyrgyzstan is a very important part of Eurasia. On the one hand an important factor is the fact that the state borders the restless Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region of China. On the other - Kyrgyzstan is one of the transshipment points on the drug trafficking routes from Afghanistan to Russia and the EU. In addition, following the recent failed coup in Turkey, it was discovered that the Kyrgyz elite came under the strong influence of the pro-Western sect of Fethullah Gülen.
