Putin and Erdogan discussed the Syrian conflict

On Wednesday, 5th of October presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation. This was reported by the Kremlin press service.

The two leaders discussed Russian-Turkish cooperation, especially in the energy sector. In particular, they talked about the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant "Akkuyu" and gas pipeline "Turkish Stream".

In addition, Putin and Erdogan discussed the Syrian conflict.

"The need to increase the international community's efforts to build a peaceful political process in the country, creating the conditions for a de-escalation of the situation and address the humanitarian problems was discussed", - states the press-service of the President of the Russian Federation.

The conversation was initiated by the Turkish side. It took place in the context of the forthcoming meeting of the Presidents which will be held on October 10th in Istanbul at the World Economic Congress.
