Russia in 2013 prevented the United States attack on Syria, the consequences of which would be devastating. The goal was to "persuade" President Bashar al-Assad to give up chemical weapons. Such a statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with Tass.

Lavrov expressed concern at the whereabouts of chemical and other weapons after such an attack was to take place.

"It seems that our Western colleagues have yet to be realized the consequences of their military operations of recent years in the Middle East and Africa. They believed that destroying the goverments of Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi would lead to democracy . Instead, there is chaos, were looted army abandoned military depots and arsenals " fall into the hands of terrorists.
