Protests in Taiwan over same-sex marriage bill

Taiwan's parliament has adopted a number of amendments to the bill in the first reading, according to which, same-sex marriages are going to have the same rights as traditional ones. This law, which President Tsai Ing-wen lobbied, has caused a mixed reaction in Taiwanese society.

Catholic priest Otfried Chan, the secretary of the Chinese Regional Bishops Conference in Taiwan, said: “From time immemorial human being is born by the union between a man and a woman”. He also called to think over the possible consequences of such bill.

Moreover, around the building of the Parliament people are gathering to protest.

Tsai Ing-wen doesn’t hide the real reason of this bill. The legalization of same-sex marriages is aimed not at the maintenance of democracy, but against Beijing.
