President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent his congratulations to Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as President of the Republic of Türkiye. In the telegram, the Russian leader called Erdogan a friend and noted that Moscow appreciates the Turkish president's contribution to strengthening Russian-Turkish relations.
"Dear Mr Erdogan, dear friend, please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your re-election as President," Putin said in the message.
The Russian president reiterated his readiness to continue the dialogue between Moscow and Ankara.
He also noted that the Russian side attaches great importance to the implementation of joint projects, such as the construction Akkuyu nuclear power plant and the creation of a gas hub in Turkiye.
“The victory in the elections was the logical outcome of your dedicated work as President of the Republic of Turkiye, a clear demonstration of the Turkish people’s support for your efforts to consolidate state sovereignty and pursue an independent foreign policy.
On the evening of 28 May, Recep Tayyip Erdogan thanked the people of Turkey for the trust they placed in him following the second round of the presidential election.
According to Anadolu, after processing 99.45 per cent of ballots, Erdogan won 52.10 per cent of the votes. His rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has 47.90 per cent.
