Pentagon: US occupied Afghanistan

Friday, 23 September, 2016 - 15:00

Chairman of the US Joint Command Staff, General Joseph Dunford Jr. officially announced that 70% of the territory of Afghanistan is controlled by the security forces, backed by the United States.

He said this is a speech to the US Senate Armed Services Committee. However, he did not state the number of  losses there among Afghan government forces because of regular clashes with the Taliban.

Dunford focused on the fact that the Afghan security forces with the continued support from the United States can deal with the establishment of the required control regime of the country. In fact, this is a call to continue financing the US military campaign in Afghanistan, though officially the Pentagon does not conduct combat operations there.
