North Korea fired a ballistic missile from Banghyon air base in the western province of North Pyongan into the sea off its east coast, as South Korea's military reported.

“Today's missile launch... is aimed at drawing global attention to the North by boasting its nuclear and missile capabilities”, the South Korean defence ministry said in a statement.

After this, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary called United Nations Security Council to consider immediately the introduction of new sanctions against North Korea.
