Nicaragua: Presidential elections start

President of Nicaragua, Vice President, 20 deputies, 70 departmental and regional representatives and 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament are going to be elected during the course of this election.

Former Marxist guerilla leader Daniel Ortega is reported to easily clinch a third consecutive term as President at the present time. More than 60% of voters are for him

Six candidates are applying for the presidential post. Maximino Rodriguez, candidate of the center-right Liberal Constitutionalist Party (PLC) has got just 8 percent. The Independent Liberal Party (PLI), the Constitutionalist Liberal Party, the Nicaraguan Democratic Movement, the National Opposition Union have less than 5% of the votes.
